Dr. Oliva’s first book, Alone in the Mainstream:  A Deaf Women Remembers Public School was published in 2004.  A sequel, Turning the Tide:  Making Life Better for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Schoolchildren (co-authored with Dr. Linda Lytle) will be released in February 2014.  These two publications establish her as a leading advocate for DHH children as they become more and more dispersed around the nation and the world.  Gina was on the staff and later the faculty at Gallaudet University from 1973 to 2009.  She is also known for her pioneering work with visual cues for group exercise classes, which preceded her writing career.
